Safety Rules
This is a working draft that is still being reviewed by an Australian lawyer. Details in [square brackets] will be completed before launch. Questions: lendmeau@gmail.com
LendMe works best when everyone is honest, careful and prepared. These rules sit alongside our Terms and Conditions.
What can never be listed
- Cars, motorcycles and any other motor vehicle, whether road registered or not.
- Weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, dangerous chemicals and illicit drugs.
- Items that are stolen, counterfeit, recalled, subject to a safety ban or otherwise illegal to hire out.
- Medical devices that need professional supervision.
- Anything that can't be used safely by an ordinary adult with proper instructions.
LendMe may pause or remove any listing or category it considers unsafe, unlawful, misleading or unsuitable. A listing being allowed is not a promise from LendMe that the item is safe.
Tools and other higher-risk items
Tools can cause serious injury. Lenders must inspect a tool before every booking, make sure guards and safety features work, tell renters about any faults, and provide the manual. Renters must only use a tool they are legally allowed and competent to use, inspect it before use, wear the right protective equipment, and stop straight away if it malfunctions.
Before you lend
- Only list items you own or are allowed to rent out.
- Use clear, current photos and describe known faults honestly.
- Set a bond that fairly reflects the item's value.
- Add pickup details when you list or edit the item. Renters only see them after they have paid.
Before you borrow
- Read the whole listing, including any faults and safety notes.
- Check the dates, the bond and the pickup arrangements.
- Message the lender through LendMe if you have questions.
At pickup and return
Both people should check the item together and add dated photos in My bookings, under Condition photos and issues. Do the same at return. Photos can't be deleted once added, and the LendMe team can look at them if there is a dispute.
Reporting a problem
- Use Report this listing on any listing that looks unsafe, misleading or inappropriate.
- Use Report an issue on a booking for damage, loss, a late return, an item that wasn't as described, or a safety concern. Reporting an issue pauses the bond refund while we review it.
- Lenders should report damage or loss within 48 hours after the scheduled return.
- You can also email lendmeau@gmail.com with the listing or booking details.
Emergencies
If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 000 first. Report suspected theft or serious unlawful conduct to the police as well.
