How it works
Borrowing and lending on LendMe, from first search to bond refund.
For Borrowers
1. Find it
Search by suburb or postcode anywhere in Australia, filter by category and price, and sort by distance.
2. Request it
Choose daily hire (one or more full days) or, if the Lender offers it, hourly hire (a single day, in whole hours). You see the total and any bond before you send the request. Nothing is charged yet.
3. Pay to confirm
The Lender accepts or declines. If they accept, you pay through LendMe within 48 hours to confirm the booking. After that the dates are released again.
4. Pick it up
Message the Lender to arrange pickup. The private pickup details appear once you have paid. Add before photos, then tap I’ve picked it up when you collect the item.
5. Use it and return it
Look after it and return it on time and in the same condition. Add after photos. Leave a review for the Lender.
For Lenders
1. Verify and set up payouts
Verify your identity, then set up payouts with Stripe so you can be paid.
2. List it
Add clear photos, an honest description, a price per day, per hour or both, an optional bond, and private pickup details.
3. Accept requests
You get an email for every request. Accept or decline from My bookings. You can block out dates when it isn’t available.
4. Hand it over
The Borrower pays to confirm. Check the item together at pickup and add photos. You are paid when the Borrower confirms pickup, or automatically the day after the booking starts.
5. Get it back
Mark the item returned when it’s back. If you report damage or loss, do it within 48 hours of the scheduled return.
Money
What a Borrower pays
The hire fee shown on the listing, plus the bond if there is one. There are no extra fees for Borrowers.
What a Lender earns
The hire fee minus LendMe’s fee, currently 10% of the hire fee. The bond is never charged a fee.
When money moves
The hire fee and bond are paid together when the Borrower confirms the booking. The Lender is paid when pickup is confirmed. The bond is refunded after the item comes back.
How the bond works
A bond is a refundable amount that a Lender can ask for on a listing. It gives Lenders some protection and gives Borrowers a reason to look after the item.
How it works
- The bond is shown on the listing before you request, and it is paid with the booking.
- When the item is back, the Lender marks it returned. If they forget, LendMe marks it returned two days after the booking ends.
- The bond is then refunded automatically after 48 hours, to the card used to pay.
- If either person reports an issue, the refund is paused and the LendMe team reviews the photos and messages. The team can refund all of it, part of it or none of it, and any part not refunded goes to the Lender.
Good to know
- A bond is not insurance. It may be less than the cost of replacing an item.
- Photos at pickup and return are the best evidence. Add them every time.
- The bond is separate from the hire fee, and LendMe’s fee is not taken from it.
- If a booking is cancelled before pickup, the bond is refunded with the rest of the payment.
